Annual General Meeting 2013
Thank you to all members that attended the AGM on 5th Feb. Our new committee has been voted in now until 2015. The officers can be viewed on our Contact Us page.
We would also like to congratulate David Bebbington for his award of Life Membership at the AGM. David has been involved in Rochdale Artists since it's formation and has been an important part of the group and committee for many years and we Thank him for all his dedication and hard work.

Events
Jan 8th Coach house exhibition paintings to be redistributed.
Jan 15th Bring in a piece of artwork with figures in for appraisal.
Feb 5th Annual General Meeting come and see how your art group is run.
Feb 12th George Hardy will give a talk on 'Time' in relation to art.
Feb 19th Bring in a piece of artwork that has been Inspired by a poem, film or book. The group will attempt to guess the work.
Mar 5th Workshop pyrography and charcoal work.
Mar 12th Silent Auction night. Bring in any art equipment or books you no longer need and bid on something new to you.
Mar 19th We have a new Life Model tonight.
There is an appraisal on life model work on April 2nd.
April 16th Workshop on pencil sketching bring in a subject your pencil and paper.
April 23rd Rosemary Leech will do a landscape watercolour demo. There will be an appraisal in the next newsletter.

Founder's Plate 2012
Congratulations to Lynne Thompson, who won this years Founder's Plate.
The winning painting was a watercolour titled View from Syke Common

Oct 2nd Talk/demo on pastel drawing by artist Paul Pilgrim. Appraisal of our work on Oct 23rd.
Oct 16th Jenny Davis will do a talk on getting our composition right. There is an appraisal of our work on Nov 13th.
Oct 30th Chance to make your Christmas cards With our lino equipment, there is also a follow up week on Nov 6th.
Nov 20th David McPhail will give a talk on Artists breaking the rules!
Nov 27th Selection night for Coach House Exhibition. Please bring paintings with D rings attached. Exhibition runs 2nd Dec -6th Jan 2013.
Dec 4th Our workshop will be working with oils. Bring in suitable boards, brushes and any paints you may have and well share ideas and learn some techniques.
Dec 11th Bring in your best piece of art work from this year to be judged for the Founders plate and enjoy our Christmas buffet.
Next meeting in the New Year Jan 8th 2013 re-distribution of exhibition pictures and free painting night.

July 3rd Please bring along a selection of your work you would like displayed in this years Hollingworth Lake exhibition. Please ensure your work has D- Rings for hanging and a name and price.
July 17th Neil Ashton is a local artist he will give a lesson on proportion of the human form. We will be able to do our own sketching of clothed models on the night so bring your paper and pencils.
July 24th Our theme this newsletter is the artist Jack Vettriano. Feel free to join in with the theme and bring any pieces of interest to share. Appraisal night Aug 7th.
July 31st This year is the Silver Anniversary of the Rochdale Arts Society tonight there will be a buffet and chance for old and new members to chat and celebrate.
August 21st Chance to brush up on your life model skills. No appraisal planned but feel free to bring in your work to free painting night for discussion on Sept 11th.
Sept 4th Colin Fielding will be giving a talk on Paintings classed as miniatures . Hopefully it will Inspire you to do a miniature ( 2 by 3 ) of your own. Appraisal night Sept 25th.
Sept 18th Our 3rd Workshop Karen will be doing a lesson of pen and ink work. Colin Gilbert will be available to discuss How to sell your paintings. Lyn will look at painting realistic water.

3rd April A workshop led by Karen following the
book 'Drawing on the right side of the brain '

10th April Please bring in recent works to be photo-
graphed for website. Preferably un- framed to
prevent glass glare from flash.
17th April- Gay Wilsher will do a talk on a recent
David Hockney exhibition. We will have an
appraisal night for our work on
this topic on 8th May.
24th April Selection night for exhibition at No 10
Gallery please ensure each picture has D rings in
place.
1st May Our theme is Ornithology be inspired by
our feathered friends, there's an appraisal on
29th May.
22nd May Another workshop chance to try out
various techniques in various mediums. Will give
more details on which techniques nearer the night.
12th June Skipton artist Derek Stansfield will do
a landscape painting in coffee ! yes coffee he will be
concentrating on the tonal values in a painting in
this unusual medium.
Lets hope your inspired to produce your own coffee masterpiece there will be an appraisal on 26th June.

Jan 3rd - Free free painting night and prep for Next week's AGM.
Jan 10th AGM and return of work following Littleborough Coach House Exhibition.
Jan17th Come and use our lino printing equipment and make a masterpiece. Then bring a finished piece in to the appraisal on Mar 13th.
Jan 24th- Theme night start a piece of work on this quarters theme pop art and poster art style. There will be an appraisal on Feb 14th.
Jan 31st Bring in an object with great texture and try to replicate its texture in any art medium.
Feb 7th Shahida will give us a demo and inspire us to do a piece of work for the appraisal on Feb 28th.
Feb 21st At the workshop there will be up to 4 tables set up at each table someone will be teaching a skill or technique.
Mar 6th - Will be a watercolour demo by local artist Jo Grady who will demo a watercolour with animals or birds in the scene.
We can participate on the night so bring in your own watercolour paper and paints.
Hopefully Jo will inspire us to do a piece and we will have an appraisal night on Mar 27th.
Founder's Plate
Congratulations to Lorraine Dewhirst, winner of the Founder's Plate 2011.
Her winning acrylic painting titled "This one's mine!" and was judged by Phyllis Hargreaves. And a big Thank You to Phyllis for her wonderful judging skills!

Sept 13th John Edwards will be our life drawing model.
Sept 27th John Shepherd will be talking about his recent commission and inspire us with an art task to do, with an appraisal on Oct 25th
Oct 4th A night drawing caricatures, bring in a picture of a famous face to sketch or do someone in the class.

Events
Please note that 26th April is not a holiday as previously stated.
On 3rd May we will be painting something with a seasonal theme - spring flowers perhaps? Bring your own props.
On 10th May we will have a watercolour demonstration and talk by Paul Talbot-Greaves
On 17th May we will get our exhibition paintings back and also the corridor pictures will be changed. Consult with Veronica on how many are required.
On June 21st Lynne will demonstrate how to do Lino Printing. Hopefully we will have enough materials for you all to have a go.
On 2nd August Jeremy Taylor will give a talk and demonstration on watercolour.
On 16th August Gillian Murphy, who, with her husband has been living in a rural area in Uganda for a year, will tell us their experiences and show us how to make the beautiful beads that the villagers make to try to earn a little money.
Painting Outside
We hope some time during June, July or August to do some painting outside, depending on weather.
Exhibitions
Our Hollingworth Lake Exhibition will run from Thursday 14th July to Thursday 5th August. The Preview will be on Saturday 16th July 2.00 - 4.00pm. Members can submit up to 3 paintings.
Don't forget also 'People's Art' and 'Littleborough Arts Week'. Info later.
Theme Nights
For these, which are optional, there will be a theme given out well in advance, and an informatl discussion on the paintings it inspires will take place on a designated Free Painting night.
Annual General Meeting
Well, it was a good turn out for our AGM this year and we managed to get through quite a lot of business around the running of the group. Thanks to all that came.
It was also the turn of voting in new officers for the committee. So, it has been an exciting time as we have some brand new committee members stepping up, kept some valued and hard working officers and sadly lost a few really valued committee members this time too. We also have Lorraine Dewhirst now as a newly formed role of Membership Secretary, who will be co-ordinating welcoming potential new members etc.
So the committe now stands for 2011 - 2013 as...
